About FEI Jump Cups
FEI Jump Cups are specialised safety devices used in showjumping to hold the poles (rails) on jumps in equestrian showjumping competitions. These cups are designed to meet the standards set by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the governing body for international equestrian sports, ensuring rider and horse safety.
Breakaway Design
- FEI Jump Cups are designed to release or break away when the pole is hit by the horse during a jump. This minimises the risk of injury by allowing the pole to fall away easily instead of staying in place or causing the horse to trip.
Adjustable Height
- Jump cups can be adjusted at different heights on the jump standards to accomodate various levels of difficulty or course designs. They fit into holes on the jump standard allowing for easy height changes.
Material
- Typically made from durable yet lightweight materials such as plastic or metal. The materials are chosen to with stand impact ensuring safety
FEI Approval
- For safety and competition purposes, FEI jump cups must meet certain specifications as outlined by the FEI. They are tested and approved for international use.
Pinless Jump Cups
- Many FEI jump cups are "pinless" meaning they do not use pins to hold them in place on the standards. This feature enhances safety by allowing the ups to release more easily upon impact. It also makes adjusting the jump height more efficient.
